External Links

We use the external link option for any page link within or outside of the site you are on and e-mail address links.

Linking to outside websites:

  1. After you select the external link option, paste the entire URL address from notepad or textedit into the link address field.
  2. Skip the link display text field.
  3. Choose the target window from the drop down.
  4. Click insert
  5. Save changes

Linking to pages within the website:

  1. After you select the external link option, you will type (or paste from notepad/textedit) the page name included in the last portion of the URL address of the page you are linking to. You will use this format /pagename.
For example: if you are linking to the Modules page, I would insert an external link and type /CU_Modules in the link address field because this is the URL address for the page http://learn.swengine.com/CU_Modules. You can also find this information in the gear icon for the page settings in the flyout menu (listed under URL path).
  2. Skip the link display text field.
  3. Choose the target window from the drop down.
  4. Click insert
  5. Save changes
Linking to e-mail addresses:
  1. After you select the external link option, you will type the following into the link address field: mailto: and then whatever the e-mail address is without any spaces. For example, if I were linking an e-mail address for info@schoolwebmasters.com, I would type mailto:info@schoolwebmasters.com
  2. Skip the link display text field.
  3. Choose the _top target window from the drop down.
  4. Click insert
  5. Save changes
